We all like to feel that we are getting value for our money but we also want to know that the advice we are receiving is good, accurate and relevant to our circumstances.
When we are buying for example a lawnmower we can easily identify the features which separate the different models and therefore the different levels in price.
How do we do this when using professionals like accountants and lawyers?
In accountancy there are the professional Chartered Accounting firms who have to adhere to a strict code of conduct. The governing body (New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants), NZICA for short, completes regular checks to ensure that standards are adhered to. The professionals in these firms have to undertake a certain amount of continued professional development each year to make sure their knowledge is current and up to date. NZICA can also intervene in disputes if you ever have a problem with your accountant.
Anyone can offer their services to the public as "accountants" but they are not members of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.

What training or knowledge does the "accountant" really have?
Who monitors the standard of their work?
If something was to go wrong what course of redress do you have?
We recommend using a professional for all your accounting needs. Sometime cheap isn’t best.
