Yes it is the silly season again and the end of the year is fast approaching.
If you are like me, there are a lot of things to achieve or fit in before the Christmas / New Year break.
- Have you done your business planning for the next few months (at least)?
- Do the Statutory Holidays impact on your business and if so how are you going to plan for this?
- Are there any changes happening in your organisation that you need to complete before the break?
If your holiday plans are finalised make sure you communicate these to all staff and then to other stakeholders – clients, suppliers etc. Nothing builds discontent in a workplace like uncertainty.
Review the year just gone, both good and not so good. Ensure you share this information with your staff, emphasising what has worked well this year and give them the credit where they deserve it.
Do not dwell on the areas which weren’t so effective because this isn’t going to change what happened. Learn from this and make a fresh start in the New Year. You and your staff are a "team" and as long as the "team" crosses the finish line together you can forget about the bumps you had along the way.
Most of all thank your staff for the efforts made during the year because without them your business would not be the same.
End the year in the way you intend to start the next – on a positive note.
